Now, before you start picturing some elaborate, mystical setup requiring years of training (spoiler alert: nope), let me tell you—building an altar is personal, intuitive, and totally yours to create. There are no rules, no right or wrong, and you can’t mess it up. This is your thing, your runway, your outfit, your altar!
It doesn’t need to be complicated! Think of it as a mini energy oasis, a place where you can set intentions, recharge, and reconnect with yourself. Maybe it's just to take a nap, read a book or put on your makeup… in any case a visual reminder of calm, peacefulness, and good vibes is always a good idea - ahem! In any space! (Have you been to Aviva's studio? There's a crystal altar around every corner!)
Step 1: Pick the Perfect Spot
Your altar doesn’t need to be a whole room (unless you want it to be, in which case—YES, do that). It just needs to be a space where you feel calm, clear, and connected.
A nightstand? Perfect for setting intentions before sleep.
A cozy corner in your living room? Love that.
A shelf in your studio? Creative energy, incoming.
Even a little tray on your desk? A workday reset at your fingertips.
In the bathroom near the tub? Get your amplification on!!
All of the above? You get it girl!
The key? Choose a spot that feels sacred to you.
Step 2: Choose Crystals That Align With Your Intentions
What kind of energy do you want your altar to radiate? Here are some of my go-to’s:
💎 Clear Quartz – The ultimate amplifier. It boosts clarity, focus, and whatever energy you’re working with.
💎 Amethyst – Pure zen. Perfect for relaxation, intuition, and deep thinking.
💎 Citrine – Abundance, baby! Brings in joy, creativity, and those yes, I CAN do this vibes.
💎 Black Tourmaline – A protector. Keeps negativity far, far away.
💎 Selenite – The cleanser. Wipes away heavy energy like a crystal-powered sage stick.
Mix and match based on what you need! (Pro tip: Don’t overthink it—let your intuition pick the stones that call to you.)
Step 3: Add Elements That Speak to You
An altar is more than just crystals. It’s a space that reflects you, your energy, and what makes you feel connected.
Some of my favorites:
Candles – Fire energy = passion, transformation, and warmth.
Plants or Flowers – Fresh energy, grounded vibes, and a touch of nature.
Affirmations or Notes – A little handwritten magic to reinforce your intentions.
Incense or Essential Oils – Because scent is powerful. Think lavender for calm, citrus for energy, or sandalwood for grounding.
Sacred Objects – Maybe it’s a special piece of jewelry, a seashell from a meaningful trip, or something passed down from a loved one. If it feels powerful, it belongs.
Quiet Reminders: a souvenir, piece of jewelry, a note, or other found object that reminds you of that feeling - I have notes, quotes, shells from the beach…
No rules—just intuition and intention.
Step 4: Activate Your Altar with a Ritual
Now for the fun part—bringing your altar to life! This can be as simple or elaborate as you want. Here’s a quick ritual to activate the energy:
✨ Cleanse the space – Use sage, palo santo, or even just your breath to clear out any lingering energy.
✨ Set an intention – Hold your crystals and speak (or think) about what you want to bring into your life.
✨ Light a candle or incense – Symbolize the start of something new.
✨ Spend time near it – Meditate, journal, or simply be in the space. Let it become part of your routine.
The more you interact with your altar, the stronger the energy becomes.
Step 5: Keep the Energy Fresh
Your altar isn’t a museum—it’s a living space for your energy. It shifts, updates, and is maybe seasonal! ( yes crystals love twinkle lights!)
Keep it fresh! Swap out crystals based on what you’re working on. Dust it off, rearrange things, and refresh your intentions whenever you feel called to.
Also, cleanse your crystals as you have time (Because let’s be real—our stones pick up a lot of energy). You can smudge them with sage, let them sit in moonlight, or rinse them with water and essential oils.
At the end of the day, your altar is yours. No one else’s. There’s no right or wrong way to create it—just trust what feels good, what makes you light up, what brings you peace.
And when life gets busy, chaotic, or overwhelming? You’ll always have this space—a little oasis of energy, beauty, and you. Keep Calm and Sparkle On!
